Hi, I'm Sarah. I make scroll saw wood art out of Calgary, Alberta, one piece at a time.

I moved to Canada from Ireland in 1998, landing in Manitoba as a kid with zero say in the matter. My Irish roots run deep, and Ireland's nickname is the Emerald Isle, so "Emerald Wood Creations" just made sense. It's a nod to where I started, even if the wood art part came decades later and has nothing to do with rolling green hills. (No, I don't actually work with emeralds, sorry to disappoint. But if you were wanting to buy me a ring, I would love an emerald one.)

Like everyone else in 2020, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and nowhere to go. I built a few shelves. Then a few more. Eventually I ran out of walls to put them on. Then my sister sent me a post of a scroll saw piece and said, "I think you could do this," which is either the nicest or most dangerous thing anyone's ever said to me.

Six years and 150-ish pieces later, I've somehow turned that into a business I'm genuinely proud of.

I take on both ready-to-buy pieces and custom commissions: name signs, flowers, or the occasional idea I probably shouldn't attempt but absolutely will. If you can describe it, there's a decent chance I can cut it.

When I'm not covered in sawdust and paint, you can find me at my actual paying job, walking my two Westies, or binge watching some TV show I’ve already watched before.
